No Teacher left behind policy – BigGyan Cloud eLearning

Mr. Adhikari was one of my favorite teachers at high school. He was one of those teachers who can inspire everyone, may not be at same levels though. Anyways, I was the one who was really really inspired by his innovative methods to teach us. He used to make mathematics come live. His classes very so lively that I want to still attend them after about 12 years of leaving the school.

It was very natural for me to meet him when I started BigGyan. We had several meetings where I explained the whole concept of eLearning and how I was planning to make it work in India. I told him how other countries are beating us on this. For example, US government is pushing the use of technology to deliver education and has even passed a legislation called “No student left behind policy”.

He was really excited by the thought how this eLearning could change so much about how we deliver education in India but he had one concern though – that was teachers. He said, “Most teachers in our schools are in the middle to old age group. It is very difficult for them to adapt. You need to be extra careful there. In fact, now I am worried as this system catches on, which I know it will given its utility, the teachers who don’t adapt may have to just leave. With their skills outdated they wont be able to cope up. You need to take care of that”.

I could understand his concern as he was compassionate to everyone. In fact, he was right in his statement. I assured him that we will provide full support to provide training to teachers. Although, for some time may be teachers have to become students.

He remarked, “Indeed. May be Government should pass a law and call it “No Teacher left behind policy” before we pass something like “No Student left behind policy”.
